Re: Meeting: Evening of October 30th, Boulder Main Library

The blurb is either whatever you come up with to describe a citizen's meeting to discuss this issue, or the coarse description I posted to the bcv.booyaka.com website under upcoming events.

I don't have access to usenet right now, if someone else would be so kind as to post the announcement to boulder.general and any other relevant groups, I would be most appreciative.

I've sent it to Sam @ KGNU and will also circulate it to my personal local political action list (about 100 folks). I'll try to call the papers later to see if they can run with it as is or if I have to make a press release out of it.

Please start spreading the word. I think one of the key problems we've got is the limited amount of citizen participation, and I'm concerned that unless we overcome that, details about which system has which problem and how we can fix this mess are all going to be only heard by us. It will also take a substantial volume of public attention to this issue to slow down the momentum that seems to exist around getting one of these systems ASAP if that's what needs to be done.

Thanks to everyone for all your work on this issue.

Joe

Since I am slammed in the elections division, I can't contribute much to the
preparations. However, I can publicize this event on the Libertarian chat
groups in Boulder, of which there are a few. (there's quite a few
propeller-heads like me and the rest of you)

I also suggest that we publicize it on the UseNet boulder.general and
co.politics

When there is a blurb to broadcast, I will do so.

I have reserved the conference room at the Boulder Public Library downtown for next Thursday October 30th from 6 to 9pm.

We need to do a couple things, the next few items are suggestions,
please feel free to make additions and changes:

Determine an agenda for the meeting, prepare materials

Agenda should include overview of the situation (local +
HAVA), the
county's RFP/process/the vendors, citizen issues with current process
(paper trail accountability requirements). Handouts presumably include

Publicize the meeting ASAP
press release to papers, announcement on KGNU, flyers around
town,
handouts at Dean rally, invite journalists

8Days a Week (8days.com) will donate some copying services for this,
so would someone like to prepare a master handout and/or a nice flyer?

Does anyone on our list have a good e-mail list of the local papers?

Would anyone like to meet for coffee later today or sometime tomorrow to begin preparing?
