Doug Grinberg,
I posted this document because of a request by a member of the
group.
I asked her for a format, and this was the format requested.
If you don't like the fact that OpenOffice.org is 170mb,
then don't download it.
I offered it as an alternative to those who would otherwise
use Word, which, like it or not, is the defacto standard.
For myself, I don't like it.
That's why I suggested OpenOffice.org to begin with.
You seem to agree that it's good alternative to MS Word.
Then why shoot it down?
Isn't getting the word out important enough to transcend a document
format?
I don't have Acrobat Writer, and I don't have the funds to purchase the
version of Acrobat Writer to create an Acrobat Reader document.
If you do, then go for it. Be my guest.
I find that Acrobat creates HUGE documents, which seems to be
your main complaint about my post.
Why would you want me to use this format if you are so concerned
about attachment size?
If you are using Mac OSX 10.3, then you are far in the minority,
sad to say.
I use OSX 10.2.5, and have had much success with it.
It does also require X, as OpenOffice.org has not yet been ported
to the Coco interface.
That's the way free software goes these days.
It's a fact of life.
Not much profit incentive, I'm afraid.
I find that many Word 97-2000-XP documents are not handled properly
by TextEdit.
I find TextEdit to be an inferior piece of software for opening
Word documents, as it seems to be only compatible with Word 6.0
docs, and RTF, and not much else.
I find it useless and irritating in the extreme, and it seems to
exist only to placate certain users.
What is your experience with it?
Sorry that you don't like that a Word attachment was sent to the
mailing list.
Maybe you can do better.
I challenge you to try.
Go for it dude.
Create a flyer that is superior to the one that I posted,
and is smaller in size, and is more universal.
I was asked to FORMAT the mission statement to look nice
as a flyer.
I challenge you to make it look better and still be smaller
and more portable.
Since you have so much experience, surely you can outdo me.
BTW, I have never passed on a Word virus in my life, thank you very much.
