Re: docs to PDF
I think that it would be a better idea to post plain text than Word
docs or PDFs.
I submit that plain text, rather than styled text, is preferred.
As for PDFs vs. Word docs, here's one case for a PDF (rather than
Word, and not via email, but posted on a server for download, of
course):
You've got a really spiffy handout of your next meeting announcement,
created by a talented graphic designer, perhaps a 4-up version (4
copies on one 8-1/2 x 11 page), and you share the PDF with your
fellow activists. Anyone with Acrobat Reader on UNIX, Mac or Windows
can download, view it (Mac OS X users don't even need AR; Preview
reads PDFs), print it out, and make copies for distribution. The PDF
looks just like the original, independent of the computer on which
it's being used - no issues with formatting, platform-specific
characters (bullets, apostrophes), missing fonts, etc. Activists
distribute these stylish flyers, more activists come to the meetings,
and democracy is saved. (;-)
