Subject: RE: Denver meeting?

Our meeting was fantastic.

We had 12 people even after needing to move venues with 6 hours notice, and
competing with another meetup group for space in a cramped coffeehouse. We
had a Denver Election Commissioner and her Executive Director, formerly of
the Secretary of State's office, there and they were both very aware of
these issues and very supportive of reaching out to all the election
officials across the state as well as to Drew Durham and others in the
Secretary of State's office. We learned a LOT about current status, e.g.,
Sec of State has put in for an extension on the deadline for purchasing
equipment till 2006, meaning we should all theoretically still be voting on
existing equipment in 2004. Also, Sec of State plans to force all counties
to purchase the same equipment, and the counties will not see any of the
HAVA monies. She will pay the vendors directly from her offices.

The group voted to call itself Colorodoans for Voting Integrity and our
tagline is "Your Vote Counts". One woman there donated use of a phone line
and answering service for us to use, and another gentleman offered to create
a website for us. We voted to move our meetings to the 2nd Tuesday of each
month (regardless of meetup) and we are trying for our next meeting to be at
Tattered Cover-Cherry Creek on Tues., Dec. 9th.
