How should they choose among those?
AVANTE is the only company out of the 4 currently under the consideration
with Boulder Co. But I thought we were beyond that. Even Avante's code is
proprietary and they said that they were open to "3rd party" critiques of
their code. I thought we were requesting an optically scanned voter marked
ballot until there is a ballot printing system that can be certified in
Colorado for elections. Several of the other venders had "faster" ballot
scanners as part of their proposed election systems.
If we have to choose the lesser of 4 evils, all Avante has to do is add a
barcode to their printed receipt to be the best systems currently under
consideration. However to use them in a Colorado election, the election
law will have to be modified under the recount section to allow for a paper
ballot recount also any electronic system for tallying votes should be
randomly checked for accuracy.
Which vendors are most likely to disclose source code? AVANTE will submit
their code to a third party for verification and testing.
