RE: Paper only in Pitkin

I've just heard that Donetta is saying that VVPB is bad because printers
break down.

My response would be that you can see printers failing because they are an
electromechanical device. You cannot see what is happening inside a digital
only box.

My home computer 'crashes' far more often than my printer hiccups. Donetta
is brain dead.

someone needs to clear this up with Donetta Davidson, Drew Durham, et al.
We need to get a definitive ruling on this so we can inform others. I will
take this upon part of the charge that CVI needs to study...

The HAVA deadline for accessibility is 2006, not 2004. There is no
waiver required - it has always been 2006.

There is no ADA requirement specific to voting at all that I've ever
heard of. It is a much older law.

There is no requirement for DREs at all, just a requrement for
accessible voting systems in 2006, where accessibility is
to-be-defined by the EAC which has not even been created yet.

Citations to HAVA on these points has been posted here, confirmed by
state officials, etc.

So even without the waivers that we expect to see, we don't need DREs
now!

I'm glad to get the sense that Pitkin County understands this stuff
better than some here.

I don't know why this misinformation about a 2004 deadline for touch
screens is coming from....
