news from today's hearing

For those who weren't able to make it to today's hearing, the Boulder
County Commissioners decided to authorize the County Clerk to start
contract negotiations with Hart InterCivic for purchasing a system.

Many people spoke and communicated their concerns to the commissioners
about the recommendation to purchase a system. But ultimately, at least
two out of the three commissioners felt that these concerns did not merit
overriding the Clerk's recommendation to purchase.

Apparently, the actual decision on whether to purchase the system or not
will also happen at a future public hearing -- one estimate was that this
hearing would be held roughly a month from now. My personal guess is that
this hearing will be strictly a formality unless serious problems are
discovered with Hart's system in the interim.

We'll post an audio recording of the hearing on the CVV web site as soon
as it's available. Much appreciation to everyone who took time out of
their busy schedules to attend some or all of the four-hour hearing - it
was good to see many of you there.
