What Danish told me yesterday; let's meet

I talked to Commissioner Paul Danish yesterday and he explained his
vote to continue negotiating with Hart.

He said said the Commissioners couldn't wait for the State to allow
manual recounts (like Alice Madden's HB 1296, which mandates them for
local elections only) but had to buy a system soon because County
Clerk Salas said they must.

He also said that since the 2000 election it should be easier to get a
court order for a manual recount -which he couldn't get for his 1994
race.

It looks to me like Paul and the others are simply passing the problem
off to others to solve: to Hart InterCivic, to the state legislature,
to the courts. The buck stops anywhere but with them.

As Mom said, if we want things done right, we have to do them
ourselves.
