Will you help protect our election system?

We have almost no time to act.

This Monday Feb 23^rd, the Local Government Committee is considering a bill to protect our right to verify that our votes are recorded as we intend.

The hearing for HB 1296 Madden--Voting Systems Permanent Paper Record will be in the Capitol building Room 0109 at 1:30 p.m.

PLEASE do everything that you can to ensure that the bill as currently amended is passed by this committee. The State, Veterans and Military Affairs Committee amended the bill to get rid of unworkable “paper receipts” and require “full ballot text paper ballots” – the “Schultheis amendment”. Without this amendment, HB 1296 should be defeated. We must convince the Local Government Committee members to pass the bill as it is currently amended.

The bill’s House sponsor, Rep. Alice Madden, needs encouragement to support the bill as amended. She seems to believe that County Clerks in the large counties and the Equipment Vendors will support the bill if it requires paper receipts instead of full-ballot text paper ballots. The Secretary of State is adamantly opposed to paper receipts, as are we.
