Subject: Welcome to New Yorkers for Verified Voting!

Friends,

Free and fair elections are the lifeblood of our country, and they are at risk.

In my interactions with concerned citizens all over upstate New York, I've seen a need for an organization that can educate and organize citizens on issues surrounding voting and elections in the 21st century. Organized groups with this mission exist in New York City; coordinating with them, we will make work for verifiable elections a truly statewide effort. Our organization is called New Yorkers for Verified Voting (NYVV). Please visit our website at:

The NYVV website is our "information central" for current news, status and actions related to issues surrounding voting and elections in the 21st century. Be sure to take a look at our current actions page, where there are two online actions you can take right now, and an invitation to a national lobbying event. You'll find it here:

NYVV's goal will be to ensure, through education, action, and legislation, that all eligible citizens can vote, and that their votes will be accurately counted. The struggle for verified voting is gaining momentum. Currently, there is the crucial issue of electronic voting machines, but other vital issues must also be addressed soon; the HAVA requirement for statewide computerized voter registration lists is one such issue.

There is much work to be done, and a statewide grassroots organization is a great way to do it. Why? Because an organization is more than the sum of its parts.  Each of us alone expressing our concerns is powerful. All of us unified, expressing shared concerns, are more powerful.

What will NYVV do?  A key activity will be making sure that state and federal legislators and officials are kept aware of the citizenry's desire for effective legislation providing fair, safe, and verifiable voting. We'll work on passing town and county resolutions. We'll bring our message to the mainstream media, via letter writing campaigns and media events. Finally, we'll educate others through presentations, talks, and our website, www.nyvv.org.

We need your help with this effort. Right now we need volunteers to help us:

* Introduce and pass verified voting resolutions in your county.
* Host and promote presentations on electronic voting issues.
* Research and write on election issues.
* Edit articles and papers.
* Participate in state and national lobbying campaigns.

Please contact me at this email address and let me know if you can help.

Thanks,
