RE: incorrectly counted in PARACHUTE

I have sent an e-mail to the story's writer from Parachute asking the attached questions. No responses so far. Would welcome anyone following up with him (his e-mail is mmckibbin@xxxxxxxx)

Hello Mike,

I read your article in today's paper and have a few remaining questions:

1) How did the Secretary of State's office conduct the recount? (by machine or by hand?)

2) Were the ballots that were marked over with lead counted before being marking with lead? (If so, by machines or by hand?) And then were these ballots then counted by machines in the recount? What initiated the remarking of the ballots? Machines that couldn't read the marks?

3) What irregularities surfaced to cause the school district and candidate to request a recount?

4) Were the 23 newly discovered ballots a result of undercounts by the machine or some other physical discovery?

5) At what point did the restitution judges attempt to remark the ballots with lead? Was that remarking done to arrive at the initial count or was it only done for the recount? Or was this remarking one of the irregularities?

6) In your opinion, were the problems mainly due to machine error, human error, or both?

I appreciate your work and reporting. I'd love to have a quick response in preparation for a discussion on electronic voting being held tomorrow night.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

Bob,

I can't get an answer to this question from CVV people. Since you posted it
maybe you can answer it.

Incorrectly counted with what? Computers or by hand? Parachute is a pretty
small place.
