RE: Possible Denver Post Ad

Doug,

Please know that hand delivery of an absentee ballot does not guarantee that
it will be counted.

The ballot can be rejected for a number of reasons - some legitimate, and
some sinister.

Also, please know that absentee ballots are one of the best ways to cast
ineligible and fraudulent votes. They must be "watched" very carefully.

Peter,

You're right about the dates. What I meant to write down was Sunday June
27th for the first ad. But as others have responded (and if this sort of
newspaper ad is feasible at all), the time to put it in the paper would be
now. Apparently, if a voter sends in an application and receives a absentee
ballot, it can be hand delivered to one of the various branch offices around
town as late as 7:00 pm. on election night. But after calling the Arapahoe
County election board today, I was told that they are being flooded with
app's and having trouble with turn around time on sending out the ballots. I
suppose if the ad created even more chaos for the county mailing centers, we
could grind the election to a screeching halt. Hmmm, that would be one way
to get the point across!

To Bob: I am still going to talk with Jenny Lerfald at the Post on Monday,
just to get more info and pricing - no commitments will be made. I plan on
emailing her the ad today. After talking with Sam yesterday, we were
thinking of getting the ad placed just before, or after the editorial page.
Sam also said that he gets a company discount. It can't hurt to get some
hard numbers on getting an ad placed exactly where it would have the best
effect. From the last conversation that I had with Jenny at the Post, I told
her that we were a non-profit. Should I stick with that? What are your
thoughts?

Also, how did the "Under the Dome" meeting go? That sounded like a great
opportunity. Sorry I couldn't make it. I had an appointment that couldn't be
broken.

Doug

Would be a great way to get more people's attention. I assume the dates are
reversed. Since people are applying now for absentee ballots, the first add
would need to go out NOW.
Unfortunately, the expense is essentially prohibitive to us, unless somebody
has some great connections!
Next best, will be to try to get the media to run our PSAs free (once we are
incorporated), but the coverage is uncertain (i.e., radio or TV stations
running PSAs at 2 AM).
Something the Media Committee could address.
