"Behind the Freedom Curtain"
This is sort of tangential, but at least it's enjoyable. This is a
promotional film made in the 1950s by a lever voting machine manufacturer
to sell the '50s equivalent of a DRE. I suppose one could call these
machines "direct record mechanical" machines.

I am told that Boulder County used to use machines similar to these before
the County purchased the DataVote punchcard system. These lever voting
machines are still in use in some precincts in the current election - you
can see which ones at:

Apparently one vote fraud tactic on these beasts was to shave the counter
wheels so they would only count a fraction of a vote for certain
candidates. Completely undetectable by the voter, of course. Mentioned
