RE: wiki defacing
Do it. I couldn't believe that the wiki was this open. I figured that this
would happen right away. Sort of unbelievable that it hasn't happened
before.

Subject: wiki defacing
hello everyone,
it's getting to the point with the web site where someone is defacing it
about two or three times per week. this is about my threshold of pain.
so at some point this week i propose to add an authentication popup window
whenever someone tries to change a page that will say something like,
"Enter the username 'x' and password 'y' below to edit this page."
this way, everyone will still be able to edit the page as they wish, but
current automated attacks will be repelled. my assumption is that most of
the vandalization is automated -- just 'bots trying to boost a page's rank
in the search engines, for cash. although obviously if this doesn't cut
it, we can ratchet up to schemes which are more of a pain.
any comments before i implement this are welcome,
- Paul
