City must let candidates participate in Logic and Accuracy Test
I just talked to Alisa Lewis, Boulder City Clerk, about the Logic and
Accuracy Test (LAT) for the Boulder Municipal Election. I'm
representing candidate Lisa Morzel for the LAT.
I was very surprised to hear that Alisa plans to prepare all the
ballots herself and not permit representatives of the candidates to do
anything but watch.
This is contrary to state law for how LATs are conducted - they always
require that parties, candidates, etc be able to submit their own
secret ballots and see how the system counts them. I know, having
participated in county LATs in the past, and having written a memo on
the topic in cooperation with Don Hayden.
I expect Boulder to promote more openness and participation than the
state norms, not less. Please make sure the candidates are
represented in this critical test of the system.
Please attend the council meeting this evening and speak up!
I'm sorry that I can't make it myself.
Thank you,
