another attack on term limits
Every few years in Boulder County, as well as others, local elected
officials try to get voters to put an end to term limits, or extend them.
The last attempt here was in 2001 and it was slated to end term limits in
our county. It was proposed by George Epp, our then sheriff who wanted to be
king cop for life. It failed mostly because Epp was not well liked in his
second term, and the movement to remove term limits was all his.
Now six of then ten elected officials in Boulder County have signed a joint
letter asking the commissioners to put an extension of term limits on the
ballot. Rather than two four year term, they are asking for three four year
terms.
Taking a lesson from history, the proponents of this move are asking for an
extension in the limits, not removing them; and are working as a team,
rather than being championed by one person.
Most of the six elected supporters of this measure are in their first terms.
They are making plans for six years ahead to stay employed.
