RE: CO Daily: Paul Tiger Advocates Hand Counted Paper Ballots

How do you like that for a switch?

I did tell Evan beforehand. Credit where it is due.

I don’t like the idea of hand tallies, but I sure as heck don’t like what we have now. The Hart system is going to continue to fail. Pretty much any system that we buy that has any kind of failure will make everything look bad for elections in our county.

The clerk has no understanding of the gravity of the situation and plans on ‘fixing’ it by buying more technocrap with our money. She’s a lame duck. She can do whatever she likes. Even if she’s not re-elected it will not matter.

If no equip is bought then she can say she did her best and the county failed to bring it off. She can be held blameless. If she buys and load of crap, she can blame the vendors. She did that once and it seemed to have worked. She even stole $52K and got away with that.

We have to convince the commissioners that buying more technocrap will land on them solidly when it fails to work as touted. Not Linda; not the vendors; but land on them.

Counting the ballots by hand is workable; probably cheaper than what Linda has in mind; and has really no downside – unless you want to run a $3M slush fund.

"Count the ballots by hand. It is legal and it is accurate. Best of all, it is transparent."
