Greetings from the Main Street Free Press
Hello Citizens for Verifiable Voting discussion list,
Thank you for forwarding Paul Tiger?s email to your list to our staff at Main Street
Free Press.
I won?t take up your time replying to Paul?s allegations in depth. Our staff has
received several similar emails from him over the past two years, as have I
personally.
Our editorial policy on letters to the editor is somewhat different from the
?mainstream corporate media,? as most of you will have noted our paper content is
also. As do all others, we reserve the right to decide what is appropriate to print.
We steer clear of any letters laden with hyperbole and personal attacks, as well as
those which contain legally problematic allegations. To date, the only Libertarian we
have heard from is Paul.
Our record of following CVV?s activities in print stands for itself. Our staff, and
folks we know who are members of your group, are keeping very close track of this
issue and your group?s actions.
We are a very small paper ? 8 pages at this time ? so have quite a few tough calls to
make on how we allot our space each month. Our website allows us a bit more leeway. We
are incorporated as an LLC, quite separate from Longmont Citizens for Justice and
Democracy. It allows us an important editorial separation from that group, though many
staff members are also LCJD or attend their activities.
Our staff doesn?t operate like most newspapers you?re familiar with ? our corporate
practices mirror our progressive politics. Although I am the ?Editor? in name, every
story idea and letter we receive is vetted by our whole staff (7). I handle most
editorial matters otherwise; if there is a problem, we have a three-person Editorial
Committee to make those decisions.
I would most certainly encourage any of your membership to write us ? send letters,
guest opinions, even a story on this issue (staff@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx). We have
many guest authors in each edition.
Thank you for your time and for all you are doing on this vital issue.
