Steamboat Springs, where I currently live, is poised to buy HART Intercivic voting machines. The Steamboat Pilot and Today, the local newspaper, said this morning:

"HART Intercivic is the only voting machine vendor that has received federal and state certification to handle the volume required for Routt County. The electronic voting machines are durable and user-friendly, and the company has a history of superior customer service, Weinland said. HART Intercivic also provides voter education and outreach, something Weinland has said is important." (Story at http://www.steamboatpilot.com/section/frontpage_lead/story/35746)

I haven't had the bandwidth to keep up with all the voting information I'd have liked to.  As far as I know, no electronic voting machine is safe from hacking, and a paper ballot system is far better -- more protective of democarcy -- for that reason.

I'd appreciate opinions on the HART machine.

Thanks,
Nan
