RE: RFPET Recommendation

Sorry - I used the term DRE too loosely in the company of wing nuts (self
included). I mean Etch-A-Sketch devices. Some souls call touchscreen but
that term serves the sighted only.

The AutoMark is NOT a DRE, that's the whole point, it provides a
disabled voter a way to mark a paper ballot.

DRE = Direct Record Electronic = Vote storage in computer memory

Any device which stores votes in memory is going to have a hard time
of meeting the CVV first consensus position that we:

Insist on the use of paper ballots as the single, official record of
the vote;

And very likely won't meet position two, either:

Allow no secret software in any voting machines or vote counting
machines;

I saw an argument go by that ballot markers can't be certified
because voters won't be able to fold their ballots...is there a
requirement that ballots be folded? Sounds like a design flaw at the
ballot layout stage. For example, we never had to fold the punch cards.
