Boulder County Elections Offers Voting Machine Demonstrations

The Boulder County Clerk and Recorder's Elections Division, in collaboration
with the Center for People with Disabilities (CPWD), is offering the public
the opportunity to preview the new electronic voting machines being debuted
this election cycle.

CPWD will host a hands-on preview on July 5 and July 26, from 9:30 a.m. to
noon at their Boulder office at 1675 Range Street. The eSlate will also be
at their Longmont office at 615 North Main Street on July 11, from 9:30 a.m.
to noon.

"The eSlate will give many people with disabilities their first opportunity
to vote privately and independently," said David Bolin, Executive Director
of CPWD. "Our community is excited at the prospect of real inclusion in the
election process. We hope that a preview of the voting machine will address
the concerns of Boulder County voters."

The eSlate, a product of Hart Intercivic, meets state and federal
requirements for Direct Records Electronic voting mandated by the Help
America Vote Act. All of the eSlate voting devices are equipped with a
Disabled Access Unit to support voting by people with physical disabilities,
visual impairments, and literacy challenges. The eSlate offers
accessibility to people who otherwise cannot vote without the assistance of
a friend or election official.

"We're very excited about the opportunity to show people the accessibility
features of the eSlate," said Linda Salas, Boulder County Clerk and
Recorder. "We also want to remind the voters that they will have the choice
to vote either on the eSlate or the traditional paper ballot at every
polling place."

CPWD and the Clerk & Recorder's office invite and encourage the general
public, as well as people with disabilities, to come by to try out the new
voting machine. The eSlate will also be available for hands-on preview at
other public events, such as the Boulder County Fair in Longmont from July
25 - August 6, prior to the August 8 Primary Election. Please contact the
Elections Division at 303-413-7740 for other upcoming demonstrations.
