Re: whistleblower Curtis in dead heat in Florida
We people in Boulder, in order to maintain our high standard of living,
should impose tariffs and tax incentives to keep good jobs in Boulder and
not let those low-wage people in Colorado Springs, Pueblo, and even Stirling
compete with what we do best here in Boulder.
While I'm happy that someone who understands the technical details of the
ease of hackability of computers is running for Congress, what Mr. Curtis
understands about computers he lacks in basic economics.
No tariff ever created wealth. What a tariff will do is transfer wealth
from the rest of the economy to the particular group who benefits from the
tariff. The politicians will point to the beneficiaries. Indeed, it may be
impossible to identify the losers because they are so spread out.
We've been here before.
The Great Depression was greatly exacerbated by Smoot-Hawley. The rest of
the world raised their tariffs after we did. The world economy ground to a
halt and the world went into depression.
Don't we ever learn basic economic lessons?
Sigh.
