Result from the BLUG meeting

I went to the Boulder Linux User Group tonight and gave a quick announcement about CVV, and handed out a bunch of position statements which I ended up just pasting the announcement of the next meeting on the bottom from the updated meeting flyer that Laura gave me.

People seemed really receptive, and Chris Riddoch, the group leader, offered to send out an email to blug-announce, the announce only list for BLUG (as opposed to the high volume discussion list, which has a smaller subscriber list).

Also, it turns out that the next CVV meeting happens to perfectly coincide with BLUG's Hacking Society meeting, which happens every thursday of the month other than the one when the main BLUG meeting is held. The Hacking Society meeting is a very informal gathering at Cafe Sole. Chris suggested that maybe people would be willing to migrate to the CVV meeting instead.

Has a meeting place for next week been decided on yet? I want to make sure to pass that on to Chris as part of the BLUG announcement, so that people don't have to keep checking the wiki or subscribe to the mailing list just to figure out where it's going to be.

Also, I was trying to think of what else would be good to include in that email. I was thinking the group statement text, as well as a list of suggested ways to get active about this issue. As far as the statement goes, where do things stand with integrating the several changes that were discussed at the last meeting? Should I wait on that, or just send out what's on the site right now.

As far as the list of ways to take action, I was thinking:

- Contact the county commisioners and elections officials with your concerns (and give contact info)
- Call your representatives and ask them to back HR 2239
- Letters to the editor
- Educating you friends and family about the issue, to raise public awareness

Any suggestions, comments, whatever are totally welcomed and encouraged. I've never done anything like this before, and am really running a bit blind.
