RE: Fwd: Rush circulates another letter to Members
This is an excellent example that we should use when speaking to
commissioner, elections officials, etc.
I noted that Holt only gives out an abbreviated contact phone number. Those
of you familiar with the separate country inside of the beltway will
understand that your congressional representatives and senators are
out-of-touch with the rest of the country. If any of you have ever seen the
movie "Joe vs. the Volcano", think about Tom Hanks' diagnoses of a "brain
cloud" and then apply it to everyone on capitol hill.

Here is what Rush Holt (not Limbaugh :-) sent, in plain old text.

REPUBLICAN WOMEN SAY YES TO VOTER-VERIFIED PAPER TRAILS
National Federation of Republican Women Supports Voting Machines with
Paper Audit Trails
Dear Colleague:
In October, the National Federation of Republican Women (NFRW) elected
its 2004/2005 leadership using electronic voting machines with
voter-verified paper trails. A survey conducted after the election
asked the NFRW members who voted the following question:
AccuPoll records your vote electronically and prints a paper Proof of
Vote to confirm your selections. Does this voter verified paper record
of your vote...
* Make you feel more confident that your vote will be recorded
accurately and will be counted
* Seem unnecessary because you have full confidence in the
electronic record
77% of those surveyed chose the first response, demonstrating that the
voter-verified paper trail can go a long way to increasing voter
confidence in our voting systems. Moreover, 97% of those surveyed
found the electronic machines with paper audit trails to be easy to
use.
Ensuring voter confidence in our election systems is not a partisan
issue. Republicans, Democrats, third party supporters, and
independents alike should all have the confidence of knowing that all
votes are recorded and counted properly. That is why I have introduced
H.R. 2239, The Voter Confidence and Increased Accessibility Act of
2003, a bill to amend HAVA to require a voter-verified paper record
for all votes cast in federal elections. For more information, or to
become a cosponsor, please contact Bill Goold or Eric Gordon of my
staff at 5-5801.
Sincerely,
RUSH HOLT
Member of Congress
