Hi all,
I came up with the following draft text for a petition tonight after the
meeting. A couple people gave tentative thumbs up, but I wanted to run
it by the rest of you to make sure there weren't any glaring errors. If
I don't hear anything by tomorrow afternoon, I'll typeset it and place
it on the website. Which isn't to say we can't change it later if need
be, just that people will start gathering signatures tomorrow night
using it (At least one person, Donna, has already committed to this).
Draft petition text:
"We, the undersigned, wish to express our concern with the electronic
voting systems currently under review for purchase by Boulder County.
We do not feel confident that any of these systems will properly record
and count our vote as we intended it. We insist Boulder County select a
system in which our votes are recorded on a paper ballot, which we may
verify for accuracy when we cast our vote, and which will serve as the
official record of our vote. We also insist that the source code for
any software used in electronic systems which are used to count our
votes is available for review by any citizen."
Let me know what you think,
-Scotty
