RE: Meeting this week(end)?

Joe, Please consider using the CFVI training and the open remarks session at the close as a launching pad for such discussion. I invite you to join me in this closing session to help lead efforts to address Boulder's issues as well as discussing the role of hand counting in our statewide efforts.

Clearly there is a need to make our voices heard in the CO legislature regarding HB 1227 (the Secretary of State's bill) as well.

The forecast for Saturday is in the 40's and overcast.

Can anyone help arrange a location for a meeting this week or weekend, and others please indicate their general availability, offline if you like? Saturday mid-day after CfVI's training which I encourage everyone to attend, but back here in Boulder somewhere, would be my preferred choice. Maybe if it's nice out we can just meet on the Library lawn around 2pm? If we can decide today we can probably/hopefully still get a public mention in the papers and on KGNU.

Clearly, I'd hoped we'd be able to reach some positive closure on ensuring the baseline statistical sample hand count in Boulder to protect our elections this year, as that seems to be the best accepted standard nationally and in our group for verifying the type of system that Boulder County is considering purchasing. Now that it appears that we're even going to have to fight for that verification of our elections and possibly the legal validity of our paper ballots (and don't forget that the computer tablets will almost certainly be back before 2006), I'd like to see the group spend some time expanding our consensus for trustworthy elections in general, and possibly building consensus for different direct action approaches (such as demanding hand counted paper ballots, if agreed).

I know that we're all busy, but it's our duty and responsibility as US Citizens to protect Our Democracy here at home. I hope you will please make time and join me to work on rebuilding the cornerstone on which we place our trust in Our Government, especially out of respect and dignity for those who are sacrificing and losing their lives for our pursuit of life, liberty and happiness.

Considering the rest of Colorado's situation, I believe that it's important that Boulder County citizens continue to be the leaders and strive for the highest (and not the minimum) standards for our community. I'd also be glad to see someone take our ad hoc citizen's group to the next level, and I don't believe I am that person, nor do I desire to be.

Thank you for all your attention to and effort on this issue.

Joe
