Re: Comment OPPOSED to Voting System Purchase

Joe, you're right.

Paul T., why do a bunch of amateurs like Joe, Al, Paul W., Neal, Evan, etc. (and many others locally and nationally) have to take many, many personal, unpaid hours out of their lives to teach the professional election officials that election officials exist for one and only one purpose: to provide completely transparent, verifiable, accurate, and fair elections.

Electronic voting was nixed locally only because the local amateurs publicized the inexcusable irresponsibility of purchasing an electronic voting system.

I don't blame Linda and Tom for not having all the answers; this is rough sailing in some uncharted waters and there is a lot of confusion and uncertainty.  But they could have done their homework a lot better, they could have been a lot more skeptical of the garbage those lying hucksters were trying to foist on us, and they could have been raising holy hell with the Sec. of State all along.

Now the alternative, while better in some respects, nevertheless falls far short of genuine transparency and verifiability.

I'm amazed.

Maybe I missed something, but where were all the citizens who support
this decision, other than county staff? I know a number of people who
agree with my position(s) who have nothing to do with CVV, so what? I
didn't claim to be speaking on behalf of CVV.

What matters is not the who's who of my personal supporters or
detractors, but that people get involved and work on the issues so we
stop getting screwed and ripped off constantly, and guess what, that IS
representing the people, even those that don't vote! I'm not at all
interested in running for any office, I'm interested in doing the right
thing for our community, our country and our planet. Seems to me there
used to be a connection there, but to those of us on the outside who
aren't caught up in political aspirations, it's more and more obvious
that's been lost.

Today, at every level of government, there's a worsening legitimacy
crisis because elected representatives don't serve the people from whom
they supposedly derive their authority, no matter what the voter
turnout. I can't be the first person to have noticed this. In fact, it
seems like there was a famous document written some time ago that
warned us this might happen.

What's amazing is that more people aren't outraged, must be a beautiful
silence to those in power.

Joe
