Dear United Voters!

WHAT'S HAPPENING AT VOTERSUNITE!

VotersUnite! enthusiastically welcomes John Gideon to the team. In addition to his valuable work sending pointed information to the press and election officials, John is providing a new feature on the website - a news page. Each day John adds news about e-voting. A "related news" link takes you to news about related issues, such as provisional voting and voter role purges. Check it out at: http://www.votersunite.org/news.asp.

Also on the News page is a section for events and activities. Let us know of events you are planning or activities you hear about and we'll link to them.

The Info page is expanding, too. Now it has links to:

- Documents explaining why we simply must use hand counted paper ballots.

- Mess-ups, sorted by vendor, with questions your election officials should be asking each vendors before purchasing their machines. ES&S and Diebold files are already up. Sequoia and Hart are next. If you have articles that discuss messes we haven't included, please let me know. ellen@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

AND ... we've added a new page to encourage state groups to collaborate with each other. Providing a place for groups to find some unity was one of our main goals. This page lists all the state groups we know of, along with contact information and web sites of those that have them. Let us know if yours isn't listed.

Those of you who are feeling alone in this work, contact the group in your area. Or, if your state doesn't have one, create one. The people on the list can help you begin.

MYTH BREAKERS

Word is getting out. In fact, Myth Breakers was quoted in a Times West Virginian article. The journalist chose an excellent part to quote. Read the article here:

http://www.timeswv.com/search/search_detail.cfm?ID=8825

But we still see too many other news articles that continue the misconceptions that are leading election officials to make unwise decisions. If you can't hand-deliver another copy, please print one and mail it to an official in your state that doesn't have a star yet. Check here for who still needs it: http://www.votersunite.org/takeaction/mythbreaker-counties.asp

SAY IT WITH STICKERS

Here's an easy, inexpensive way to get this issue off our computers and into the hands of the public. Spread the word through the mail. Put a sticker on every envelope you mail. See instructions and ideas here. http://www.votersunite.org/info/label-instructions.asp

NATIONAL DAY OF ACTION

A coalition of national voting organizations is organizing a national "Computer Ate My Vote" day of action on July 13, 2004. Groups from all over the United States will be holding rallies and other events in support of paper ballots. We encourage you to plan an event in your state. You can find an activist toolkit at: http://vevo.verifiedvoting.org/verifier/

SPEND 10 MINUTES DOING VALUABLE RESEARCH

Election officials tell us that that pre-election testing (Logic and Accuracy testing) will catch any problems so we can feel secure that our votes count. But what happens if an L&A test fails? Please call your Secretary of State or your county official and ask this:

1) Is pre-election testing required in this state?

2) What pre-election testing do they do?

3) Have machines ever failed the pre-election testing?

4) What procedures do they follow if the machines fail the pre-election testing?

Then email and let us know. contact@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Thanks!!
