RE: Where's the Beef??? Where was Ralph Shnelvar???
Ralph (et al),
Your presence was noted. I was told of it when I arrived around 8:45. There
was no reason for you not to have been present other than your own
unwillingness. Poll watchers were present, as well as lots of people that
merely wanted to see the sausage being made.
I was not a candidate in the primary, nor a designated poll watcher. I was
not allowed inside the ballot counting room, nor did I attempt to enter it.
The doors stood open and I stood outside the threshold of the room. I was
there with Commissioner Danish; a reporter from the Times-Call; one from the
AP; and one from the Mountain Ear. To the best of my knowledge, no one from
the Daily Camera was present. At least one other interested party who was
not a designated poll watcher was present.
The LPBC's membership director, Tom Parker was a canvas board member,
helping to decide voter intent on ballots that had been filled-in in other
than the prescribed method. Those ballots were being projected on the walls
in two places for all to see.
It is sad that more CVV members didn't want to come and observe. The place
was bustling with activity and was a media event. It also might be noted
that there were at least seven sheriff's deputies that I noticed. I believe
that most of them were there to herd the jail inmates that were collecting
the equipment from the arriving judges. This is something that the jail has
been doing for at least a decade, so seeing deputies at the clerks office
wasn't a new thing.
Perhaps more CVV people did come, but stayed outside due to the number of
deputies?
Maybe they kept Ralph (in his own mind) from entering the building?
Those that came could have seen all that was happening and written a
critique for the group.
Being involved in the process, or observing it means going and doing. I wear
a button that says 'No Whining'. When asked, I tell people that it means be
involved or shut up.
