Re: More Jetson-headed Claptrap Against Manual Recounts

The idealism and floridity of Pete Klammer's 10/7 posting aside,
what I found most profoundly incorrect was the statement "it is
to the credit of the engineering profession...that such failures
are largely far and few between." Actual data (from studies of the
computer industry in general, and also election software in particular)
reveal the case to be quite the opposite. Given the number of flaws
of software in actual use, it's amazing that anything works at all,
much less correctly. The "pigs flying" analogy has often been noted.
But even more to the point, the work of P1583 is NOT to discuss the
philosophical and sociological meaning of vote casting but rather,
at this important juncture, to read the draft of the specification
we are working on and submit DETAILED and SPECIFIC corrections.
I urge people to stay on point and please apply the necessary elbow
grease to our project.

Rebecca Mercuri.
