Re: Colorado - 6,000 felons on voter lists

Dear Evan and all:

To the best of my knowledge, there is no law.

Since this issue is tangential to the purpose of CVV, I have refrained from
making a general post.

Let me quote from an eMail I wrote to Al K on Sun, 10 Oct 2004 11:14:31 .

First, congratulations to you and the Post for getting the law right.

Second, the problem in Colorado goes both ways. Please trust me on this
one: the vast majority of former felons think that they are ineligible to
vote because that's what the judges tell them on sentencing. They are not
told that when they are "off paper" that they are then legal to vote.

So the problem goes both ways. Some current felons are voting who are
ineligible. Most former felons are eligible but don't know it.

Please forward to the list if you think this is useful.
