RE: Thursday: Boulder hosts national voting standards meeting - TGDC
I'm fairly sure that the seats were all taken a few weeks back. While this
is a free event, it has a limited number of participants (in person). I am
aware that this event will be video streamed to the net.
The DHS has long ago relegated the NIST facility into SECURE. Which means
you need an appointment, an invitation, and an escort.
Paul W and I visited with Dick Harris while Dick and I were working on the
ERC. Special parking; passes; and having a security escort was in order. I
tend to doubt that that has been relaxed and a read of the invite makes that
clear.
If you just show up, expect to be turned away. If you get loud and
boisterous, expect federal cops to treat you badly.

Reminder - as previously noted (see below), you should sign up by
Monday the 26th if you want to attend (for free!) the meeting this
Thursday in Boulder of the TGDC - Technical Guidelines Development
Committee of the US Election Assistance Commission.
The documents they will review are now available at
http://vote.nist.gov/meeting20050929.htm
including, e.g.
# Draft Voluntary Voting System Guidelines
# Preliminary Report: Human Factors and Privacy
# Preliminary Report: Security
* Open Ended Testing
* Threat Analysis
# Preliminary Report: Core Requirements
* Draft Core Requirements and Testing (Initial Draft)
* Issues and Open Questions
* VVSG Performance and Workmanship Requirements
* Sharing Information Regarding Certification of Voting Systems
* Maintenance of the VVSG
This is a great chance to talk to the very capable technical folks at
NIST and elsewhere who understand the sorts of issues many of us have
tried to raise with less-clueful politicians.
Hope to see you there,
Neal McBurnett http://bcn.boulder.co.us/~neal/
