Paul, where in the world did you get that information? It contradicts
what you yourself posted, and I copied. I.e.

I went, as did Al and Joe Pezzillo and others. The auditorium was
nearly empty. All it took, as clarified earlier, was a simple email
to NIST to get on the list to get in.

That is also true, but not nearly as fun.

It is not that bad. Despite the fact that they seem to have fouled
the signup list up, the guard just told me to go in to the lobby. The
rules on getting into the auditorium are pretty relaxed. No need to
be "visiting" someone.
Even visiting people in the secured areas is not that bad - I've been
to other parts of the building as a guest. Never heard of a "security
escort" myself.
I hope you didn't dissuade folks from signing up.
