hand counts in precincts
Verifiable Voting Activists:
After a comment that I read somewhere in the past few weeks I propose that
precinct election judges hand tally ballot at the polling places at the
close of the polls.
Not take the ballots immediately to a central location where they can be
tallied or fall into to quagmire of god knows what. Do a preliminary or even
final count at the polling location.
We should not concerned with speed, but with accuracy. All the same, I am of
the opinion that if all the ballots are pooled in one location the effective
speed of the entire tally will be slowed down to a snail's pace.
Many of us know that the elections division wants to be able to segregate
ballots by precinct location. Moving them to the clerk's office is
counter-intuitive.
I haven't met with Kell yet to see if he thinks this is completely off the
wall, but I am thinking that there will be a lot less confusion and less
possibility of having the procedures changed or re-designed while the count
happen if there are fewer people involved.
Evan and those of us that are proponents of hand tallies should come
together and design this process now, before the Clerk and SoS can blow our
plan to hell. If we can show that we've thought it through and have a real
procedure we'll have more of a footing than trying to force them to create
it.
I hope that Al will work on this too, even though we've had our differences.
Al has seen a lot of what goes on with procedures and can help with
effective process.
We need to have some real direction and focus or our liberty and freedom is
going to be stolen by the propeller heads that want to force computers up
our collective butts.
Solutions are needed now that we know the shape of things to come.
