Ahh, back to the same old argument again. I love it.
Let's separate the technical issue from the procedural issue.
I believe every person on this list would agree that having a physical
representation (on paper) of each vote is imperative. This is a
technical issue. The paper ballot must be present before anything can be
done with it.
How those pieces of paper are used is the procedural issue. Whether you
count the paper ballots only in a recount or in every election and
reconciling differences in the procedural issue.
Let's celebrate the fact that more and more people agree that those
pieces of paper are really important. That's the first step. People who
support such a move aren't getting duped...they simply see this as a
necessary but not sufficient condition for truly reliable voting.
