Protecting Your Vote In this Primary

Please be aware that if anyone has any doubts or suspicions about the voting
tomorrow, (or during early or absentee voting) they should call the CFVI
hotline to register a complaint and complete an incident report so that we
may accumulate stories and evidence for follow-up and release to the media.

AUGUST 10 PRIMARY ELECTION ALERT

We have all heard numerous examples of electronic voting irregularities from
around the country (many of which you can review at www.verifiedvoting.org).
Because Coloradans for Voting Integrity (CFVI) is concerned these problems
could occur in Colorado, CFVI is providing a Voter Hotline for the August 10
Primary Election.

Voters in the Denver metro area may call 303-205-7919

Voters outside the Denver metro area call 1-866-383-7913

Operators will be available to record and document any voting concerns and
complaints. Please take the CFVI Voter Hotline phone numbers with you if
you're voting in person, and also if you are an election judge or poll
watcher. The "Voting Concern/Complaint Form" is attached, and may also be
completed and submitted at www.cfvi.org.

Some factors to consider when voting on an electronic machine:

â Are all machines operating?

â Are there repairs or other delays before you can vote?

â Do you have difficulty entering your vote on a machine?

â Are you able to cast your vote without assistance?

â Are you confident your vote was recorded as cast?

CFVI has enough hotline operators but welcomes anyone willing to serve as an
on-call volunteer. If you can help on a stand-by basis, please respond at
info@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Please share this hotline information with
friends, family, neighbors, and co-workers.

Despite CFVI's best efforts, attempts to ensure a transparent and verifiable
voting process have been denied. Therefore, CFVI recommends that voters in
Arapahoe, Broomfield, Jefferson, and El Paso counties vote with an absentee
ballot on August 10. An absentee ballot allows the voter to verify her vote
as cast and provides a paper trail. However, there is no guarantee the vote
will be counted as cast. But CFVI believes the advantages outweigh the risk
when compared to voting on an electronic touchscreen that doesn't provide
verifiability of either the casting or counting of the vote.

You may pick up an absentee ballot from your county clerk's office through
Friday, August 6. (Statute 1-8-104(3)). CFVI suggests returning your
ballot to your county clerk on Election Day (later rather than earlier) to
avoid early counting that may result in "get out the vote" activities by
opposing campaigns.

Subject: Re: Election in Boulder County nullified on constitutional
grounds?

Dear All,

I am lurking in the background, trying to comprehend the voting issues
facing us tomorrow and in November. Tomorrow I will be a
first-time-ever election judge in a Boulder County precinct in the
city of Boulder. In that capacity I was required to vote early (i.e.,
last week). A ballot was printed out for me in particular as I went
through the check-in process. I do not know whether that ballot can be
attached to me at this point via the bar code, but I am uncomfortable
with the whole idea of a ballot's being specially printed for a
particular voter.

On the other hand, tomorrow when a voter approaches me to receive a
ballot, I am to give out a randomly chosen ballot from a stack of
fifty blank (but no doubt bar coded) pre-prepared ballots. This
approach seems quite acceptable to me.

My question for all of you is, Are you concerned that the ballots to
be voted during the regular voting tomorrow under the Hart system are
not secret?

Thank you for any insights you may offer.

Mary Eberle
